Planning a trip to Hong Kong Disneyland? Here are some things that you should know: when to go, what to bring, how much it would cost, and more. Based on my research and our family’s experience—a family of four with a preschooler and my 65-year-old mom—these insights aim to help you plan a smooth and enjoyable visit. Below, you’ll find practical tips, insider nuances, and age-specific considerations to make the most of your day.

How to Go to Hong Kong Disneyland

Hong Kong Disneyland is located on Lantau Island, Hong Kong. As you can see in the map, it is located away from Hong Kong Island, Kowloon, and the rest of the country.

You can reach Hong Kong Disneyland via MTR, which allows for convenient and fast transportation to the park. Before you travel, check the directions and transfers from your location to the Disney train, where you have to take the Tung Chung Line to Sunny Bay Station.

There, you can hop on the Disney train, which will directly bring you to one of the happiest places on earth. Significantly, knowing your route in advance is highly recommended for a seamless and hassle-free trip.

Hong Kong Disneyland App and Tickets

Download and utilize the Hong Kong Disneyland app for your visit. Firstly, it shows schedules of the shows and live wait times. Secondly, it has an interactive map feature that shows your location in the park in real time. It can help you decide where to go first and how to get there. And finally, you can purchase tickets and promotional combos in the app.

There are ticket booths at the gate, but it’s much faster to purchase your tickets online and present the QR code upon entry. You can purchase tickets from the Hong Kong Disneyland app or other third-party apps like Klook and Agoda, which also offer various promos and packages.

Depending on the day tier, the regular 1-day ticket price could range from HK$669 to HK$939 per guest. If you are with your family, make sure to avail the discounted rates for children and adults 60 years old and above. Take advantage of their promos and rates for special tickets, for instance, the 2-day ticket, packages with meal and snacks voucher, Early Park Entry, and more. It’s best to compare the offerings and promos per app before purchasing your tickets.

Note: It’s NOT possible to go through all the rides and watch all the shows in one day. Research and plan out which ones you’ll do if you only have one day.

The Best Time to Visit the Park

The best time to visit is in the middle of the week, Tuesday to Thursday. If possible, avoid the holidays and the time leading up to summer vacation, which typically falls between June and August. Moreover, these months were also Hong Kong’s typhoon season, characterized by frequent rain and storms, as well as overall humid weather. The cool and comfy months are October to April, especially November to February. Generally fewer crowds on average, except during Halloween and Christmas. Off-peak months are January to May, except during the Chinese New Year.

Hong Kong Disneyland Food Options and Prices

As expected, the food offered in the park is expensive, with set meals ranging from HK$150 to HK$200. The snacks and drinks cost HK$35 to HK$50. If you have funds to splurge, they have several food halls all over the park. If you’re on a budget or prefer some fast food to maximize your 1-day ticket, some outside, ready-to-eat food can be brought in – just avoid those with sauces or a pungent smell.

Things to Bring on Your Visit

Wear comfortable shoes. Unless you intend to just sit in one corner, you’re surely going to exceed 10,000 steps. I did 15,000 plus steps, and I was not close to completing all the rides.

Bring your own water bottle primarily because there are free refilling stations all over the park. Additionally, the drinks being sold in the park are pricey, as expected.

You may also need a portable fan, a cap, or an umbrella, depending on the season you’re visiting. Some open rides are closed when it rains, so if you plan to maximize your park visit, skip the rainy season. We went in early May, and I prayed for days that it wouldn’t rain. I’m so glad it didn’t!

Don’t forget your power bank and tripod. You will need to capture beautiful memories by taking lots of photos. You can’t let your batteries go empty way before all the fun ends. Always have your backup ready.

When you are traveling with kids, it is best to bring your own stroller for your child. Renting a stroller costs HK$170 plus the HK$100 refundable deposit per day. For adults with disabilities, a wheelchair can be rented for HK$40 plus the HK$100 refundable deposit per day. Things to Bring Home (Souvenirs)

If you plan to get some souvenirs, there are lots of places to buy from all over the park. They could range from HK$20 to HK$300. They could be little things or memorabilia such as ref magnets, pins, pens, headbands, and keychains, and bigger items like mugs, t-shirts, caps, stuffed toys, bubble makers, and more.
